Jabalpur: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Friday inaugurated the Gita Bhavan in Jabalpur, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening India’s cultural and spiritual renaissance. He said that since 2014, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has witnessed a renewed atmosphere of cultural resurgence, with focused efforts on preserving heritage while accelerating development.
Gita Bhavan to Become a Centre for Study and Ideological Dialogue
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said the newly constructed Gita Bhavan, equipped with modern facilities, will emerge as a major centre for study, research and intellectual discourse. He подчеркed that the state government is committed to building grand and well-equipped Gita Bhavans that reflect India’s rich cultural heritage while meeting contemporary needs.
Dr Yadav noted that the first Gita Bhavan in the state has already been inaugurated in Indore, and Jabalpur has now joined this cultural initiative. The Chief Minister was speaking at a programme that also included the inauguration and foundation-laying of development works worth over ₹50 crore in the city.
New Education Policy and Inclusion of Indian Scriptures
The Chief Minister highlighted the historic reforms introduced through the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, stating that Madhya Pradesh takes pride in being the first state in the country to implement the policy. He added that, with the objective of strengthening Indian culture and values, the state government has included episodes from the Bhagavad Gita and the Ramayana in the school curriculum, enabling students to imbibe life values and ethical teachings from an early age.
Jabalpur’s Deep Cultural and Spiritual Significance
Dr Yadav said that Jabalpur, the sacred land of Rishi Jabali, has been bestowed with two historic cultural initiatives—an international Ramayana event linked to Lord Shri Ram and the newly inaugurated Gita Bhavan dedicated to the sacred teachings of Lord Shri Krishna. He observed that Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, through their ideals and valour, have guided life across all four directions of India.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also distributed benefits to beneficiaries of various government schemes and presented copies of the Bhagavad Gita to five students. The development works inaugurated included renovation of Rani Durgavati University and several road development projects.
Teachings of the Gita: Path of Duty and Service
Reflecting on the philosophical essence of the Gita, Dr Yadav said that human life in the mortal world is finite, and through the teachings of the Gita, Lord Shri Krishna guided Arjuna on the principle of righteous action (Karmayoga) and showed the way beyond emotional and relational dilemmas.
He added that the Gita dispels the darkness of the mind and teaches how to serve society selflessly, even while enduring personal hardships. The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of Yashoda Maiya and Nand Baba in shaping the values and life of Lord Krishna.
Modern, Well-Equipped Gita Bhavan
Developed by the Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, the Gita Bhavan is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. It houses a fully equipped reading room and e-library, offering access to over 5,000 religious, historical, literary and social books, along with study material for competitive examinations.
The complex also includes a 900-seat air-conditioned auditorium, dedicated discussion and brainstorming halls, and other modern amenities. The Gita Bhavan is envisioned as a vibrant hub for learning, research, dialogue and ideological exchange.
The programme was attended by Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, several public representatives, saints, religious leaders and a large number of local citizens.
