Indore: A high-level development meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav at the Brilliant Convention Centre in Indore on Sunday, setting the stage for transformative infrastructure and urban growth in the city and its extended metropolitan region. The meeting included policymakers, department officials, and urban development experts, who discussed key initiatives across transportation, industry, education, tourism, and city planning.
Metro Project to Be Largely Underground, State to Fund ₹900 Crore
A detailed discussion was held regarding the Indore Metro project, with a key decision to make the main section completely underground. CM Dr. Yadav confirmed that the state government would provide around ₹900 crore to support this initiative, ensuring maximum public benefit and efficient traffic management.
Elevated Corridor and Traffic Solutions
Dr. Yadav emphasized the construction of an elevated corridor to address Indore’s growing traffic challenges. A combined traffic survey will guide the planning after the removal of BRTS. The corridor, along with junctions and rotaries, will provide a long-term solution to the city’s transportation needs for the next 25–50 years.
Expanding Indore Metropolitan Area
The meeting approved the expansion of the Indore Metropolitan Region to approximately 14,000 sq km, connecting Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, Ratlam, Nagda, Badnawar, and Shajapur-Maksi regions. CM Yadav highlighted plans to leverage five major railway junctions, an international airport, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, and the Indore-Manmad rail line to transform Indore into a major trade, industry, and tourism hub.
Startup Park and International Convention Centre
The CM announced the establishment of an international-level Startup Park and Convention Centre near MR-10. The project, supported by the central government, will cost approximately ₹550–600 crore and is expected to be completed in three years. The convention centre will have a seating capacity of 5,000 indoors and 10,000 outdoors and is proposed to operate under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Hukamchand Mill Project as a Model Development
The meeting discussed rapid development plans for the Hukamchand Mill project. Land registration is complete, DPR prepared, and tendering in progress. The project aims to serve as a model development for the nation, incorporating top planners and encouraging investment from major stakeholders.
Redevelopment and Smart City Initiatives
Redevelopment plans were approved for 12 hectares of PWD land in Palasia, emphasizing greenery, air quality, and open spaces. Additionally, Indore will adopt future-ready infrastructure with a city-wide CCTV network, advanced IT systems, e-bus services, and smart traffic management. Over 60,000 CCTV cameras will be installed at 13,690 locations, monitored via integrated control rooms.
E-Bus and Public Transport Expansion
The PM e-bus service will operate 270 electric buses starting March, enhancing public transportation and reducing congestion in the city.
Housing, Slum Rehabilitation, and Sports Infrastructure
Significant steps were approved for slum rehabilitation and housing under the PM Awas Yojana, targeting 1.5 lakh homes over the next three years. Sports infrastructure will also be expanded, with new astroturf grounds, modern stadiums, and facilities to make Indore a hub for national tournaments and athletic excellence.
Employment-Oriented Universities and Industrial Growth
The CM emphasized establishing universities that provide employment opportunities alongside education. Malwa’s food parks, medical tourism, wellness centres, and IT sector investments were highlighted as key areas for job creation. The Badnawar PM Mitra Park will serve as a milestone in industrial development, with investor summits planned to attract further investment.
Integrated Master Plan for Indore
Dr. Yadav stressed a coordinated master plan for Indore and surrounding areas, covering transportation, metro, traffic, law enforcement, urban governance, and construction. The plan includes fast-tracking western and eastern bypasses (68 km and 83.63 km respectively) and constructing 4-lane service roads on both sides of the bypass at a cost of ₹543 crore.
The Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor will also be accelerated, aiming to develop it as a fully functional industrial and trade hub with investor-friendly policies and support for landowners.
Participation of Officials and Representatives
The meeting saw participation from Urban Development & Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, MP Shankar Lalwani, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, senior bureaucrats, legislators, district officials, and representatives from various departments. Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh highlighted initiatives for women’s and children’s safety, while Collector Shivam Verma provided updates on ongoing and proposed development projects.
