Kolkata: RITES Limited, a leading Government of India engineering consultancy, has secured a major consultancy work order from the Public Works (Roads) Directorate, Government of West Bengal. The contract involves providing Project Management Consultancy (PMC) services for the construction of a 4-lane extradosed bridge over the River Muriganga, connecting Kachuberia (Sagar Island) with Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas.

Project Scope and Execution

The total value of the consultancy order is ₹45.19 crore (excluding GST), with an execution timeline of 48 months. RITES will act as the Authority Engineer, overseeing the design, construction supervision, and project management of the bridge. The assignment ensures adherence to quality, safety, and timely project delivery.

The proposed bridge will not only provide a crucial connectivity link between Sagar Island and the mainland but also facilitate regional development, smoother transportation of goods and passengers, and tourism growth in South 24 Parganas.

Speaking about the project, Ashok Mishra, Company Secretary & Compliance Officer of RITES, said,

Strengthening West Bengal’s Transportation Network

Once completed, the Muriganga Bridge will enhance connectivity to Sagar Island, boost economic activity, and strengthen West Bengal’s transport infrastructure. It is expected to improve regional trade, tourism, and public mobility, serving as a vital link in the district’s transportation network.

The project reflects a successful collaboration between a state government and a government-owned enterprise, executed at arm’s length, ensuring transparency and compliance.
