Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav conducted a review meeting on the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the state, emphasizing that providing safe and high-quality drinking water to every citizen is the government’s topmost priority.
During the meeting, the CM directed officials to ensure that no contaminated water from sewage or other sources enters water supplies and stressed the need for a robust action plan to maintain the quality and reliability of drinking water. He highlighted that while the Central Government aims to complete the Jal Jeevan Mission by December 2028, Madhya Pradesh is set to achieve this target by March 2027, setting a benchmark for the country.
Strengthening Mission Implementation and Monitoring
CM Dr. Yadav emphasized the importance of a strong operational and maintenance system to ensure uninterrupted water supply. Panchayats and women’s groups demonstrating exemplary work under the mission will be honored at state, division, district, and village levels. Officials were instructed to identify villages that faced water shortages over the past decade and prioritize safe water supply in those areas.
Water distribution schedules will be aligned with availability at the source, and the impact of the mission will be analyzed through the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Good Governance and Policy Analysis.
Mission Achievements and Progress
Officials from the Public Health Engineering Department reported that over 8 million rural households have already received tap connections, with the overall mission progress standing at 72.54%. In the 2024-25 fiscal year, the state achieved its target of 8.19 lakh new connections, while 5.50 lakh connections have been provided so far in 2025-26.
Madhya Pradesh has also become the first state in the country to prevent borewell accidents and secured first place nationwide in the ‘Clean Water Safety Campaign’. Progress under single-tap water schemes has reached 93%, and the mission is being implemented with the support of digital monitoring systems, NABL-accredited laboratories, and solar-powered projects, ensuring technical efficiency and energy security.
Future Plans and Expansion
Over the next three years, the state aims to provide safe tap water to every rural household. New villages, schools, Anganwadi centers, and health facilities will be equipped with enhanced water supply facilities, reinforcing Madhya Pradesh’s goal of becoming a leading state in water supply management in India.
CM Dr. Yadav concluded the meeting by reiterating the government’s commitment to universal access to safe drinking water, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a model state for the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
