Bhopal/Gwalior: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the ‘Krishi Manthan & Agricultural Technology Fair 2026’ via video conferencing from the CM residence in Bhopal, emphasizing the government’s focus on farmer welfare, modern agriculture, and value addition across the agricultural supply chain.
2026 Declared as Farmer Welfare Year
CM Yadav announced that 2026 will be celebrated as ‘Kisan Kalyan Varsh’ (Farmer Welfare Year) in Madhya Pradesh. He said, “Farmers are the backbone of our state’s economy. Their hard work keeps our markets vibrant. This year will mark a milestone in enhancing farmers’ welfare and prosperity.”
The Chief Minister highlighted plans to integrate the entire value chain, “from field to factory and garden to market,” through:
- Expansion of agro-processing and employment-based industries
- Promotion of high-yield seed production
- Increased livestock, dairy, and fisheries output
- Policies to enhance farmer incomes and rural entrepreneurship

Emphasis on Agricultural Research and Export Policy
Dr. Yadav announced that the state government will boost agricultural research and soon launch a state-level agricultural production export policy. He highlighted efforts to increase the production of:
- Oilseeds like mustard
- Pulses and cereals
- Medicinal and spice crops
- Fruits, vegetables, and floriculture
The initiatives aim to make agriculture a profitable business and support farmers with modern techniques and financial incentives.
Focus on Technology and Skill Development
Experts at the event emphasized:
- Using smart technologies in storage, transportation, and markets
- Establishing food processing units and local Haat-Bazaar facilities
- Promoting entrepreneurship and skill development for rural youth
Dr. K. Srinivasan and other scientists highlighted the importance of innovations, financial guidance, and institutional coordination to attract young farmers toward agribusiness.
Horticulture and High-Tech Farming Opportunities
The fair showcased opportunities in protected cultivation, vertical farming, and cut-flower exports. Key suggestions included:
- Polyhouse and drip irrigation for efficient water usage
- Tissue culture and advanced planting materials for high-yield crops
- Post-harvest storage, processing, and packaging to reduce losses
Officials noted that Madhya Pradesh’s climate diversity and vast arable land make it ideal for high-tech horticulture and global export markets.
Farmer-Centric Innovation and Startups
The event featured India Agriculture Techathon, where students and entrepreneurs presented innovative agricultural solutions. More than 20 ideas were showcased, with the aim to establish future agribusiness ventures.
Dr. Yadav stressed that innovations from Krishi Manthan will guide effective policies and initiatives for farmer welfare and economic growth.
Collaboration with National and State Institutions
The event was jointly organized by Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Agricultural University, Gwalior, ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), New Delhi, and the MP Agriculture Department. Experts and vice-chancellors from leading agricultural universities across India attended, along with senior scientists and officials.
