Indore: The foundation stone for a new state-of-the-art building of Maharaja Yashwantrao (MY) Hospital was laid in Indore on Sunday, marking a major step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh. The new hospital complex, with a capacity of 1,450 beds, will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹773.07 crore.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav attended the bhoomi pujan ceremony as the chief guest and said the new facility would benefit not only patients from Madhya Pradesh but also those from neighboring states.
Healthcare Facilities Expanding Rapidly in Madhya Pradesh
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, healthcare services across the country and in Madhya Pradesh have seen continuous improvement over the last 11 years. He highlighted Indore as a pride of the state and said MY Hospital holds a special place in Madhya Pradesh’s healthcare system.
“With the construction of this new hospital, patients from border districts of neighboring states will also receive advanced medical care in Indore,” the Chief Minister said.
Strengthening Health and Medical Education Departments
Dr. Yadav noted that the Health Department and the Medical Education Department have been integrated to further strengthen the state’s healthcare delivery system. He also pointed out that facilities such as bone marrow transplant and kidney transplant are already being provided free of cost at MY Hospital.
The Chief Minister instructed officials of the construction agency to ensure high-quality standards during the construction of the new hospital building.
Presence of Senior Ministers at the Ceremony
Several senior leaders attended the foundation-laying ceremony, including Urban Administration and Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, and Minister of State for Health Narendra Shivaji Patel.
Bed-Wise Distribution of Medical Facilities
The new hospital building, to be constructed by the Madhya Pradesh Building Development Corporation, will include:
- 330 beds in the Medicine Department
- 330 beds in the Surgery Department
- 180 beds in Orthopaedics
- 60 beds in Paediatric Surgery
- 100 beds in Paediatrics
- 60 beds in Neurosurgery
- 30 beds in ENT
- 20 beds in Dental Care
- 20 beds in Dermatology
- 100 beds in the Mother and Child Ward
- 80 beds in Ophthalmology
- 180 beds in Emergency Medicine
Additional Infrastructure Within the Hospital Campus
According to officials, ₹528 crore will be spent on constructing the 1,450-bed hospital wards. In addition, a 550-bed nursing hostel will be built at a cost of ₹21.37 crore, while a 250-seat mini auditorium will be constructed for ₹1.60 crore.
The project also includes the development of public parking facilities at a cost of ₹31.50 crore, along with electrification, boundary walls, and solar panel installation costing ₹25.53 crore. Sewage treatment, plumbing, and water supply systems will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore.
A Major Boost to Regional Healthcare
Once completed, the new MY Hospital building is expected to significantly enhance healthcare capacity in Indore, positioning the city as a major medical hub for Madhya Pradesh and surrounding regions.
