Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Tuesday transferred ₹160 crore as ex-gratia assistance to 7,227 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan (Sambal) Yojana through a single-click digital transfer. Emphasising the importance of labour welfare, the Chief Minister said that the hard work of labourers lays the foundation for the state’s development.
Government Committed to Labour Welfare
Dr. Yadav said the state government has launched the ‘Shramana’ initiative for the welfare of workers and is implementing new labour laws on priority to ensure social security and dignity for labourers. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for integrating Ayushman Bharat health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh for workers under the Sambal scheme.
The Chief Minister also announced a proposal to provide ₹16,000 in financial assistance to pregnant women workers, ensuring they do not have to continue working during pregnancy.
‘Sambal Yojana Is True Support for Workers’: CM
Calling Sambal Yojana a lifeline for workers in the unorganised sector, Dr. Yadav said the scheme provides financial assistance from birth to death, making it a true “sambal” (support) for labourers. He described the scheme as one of the most comprehensive labour welfare initiatives in the country and said it could serve as a model for other states.
₹7,383 Crore Distributed Since Launch of the Scheme
The Chief Minister informed that prior to Tuesday’s disbursement, the state government had already provided over ₹7,383 crore in assistance across more than 7.76 lakh cases. Since its launch on April 1, 2018, the Sambal Yojana has registered over 1.83 crore workers, with the registration process continuing.
Key Benefits Under Sambal Yojana
Under the scheme:
- ₹4 lakh is provided to the family in case of accidental death
- ₹2 lakh is given in case of natural death
- ₹2 lakh for permanent disability and ₹1 lakh for partial permanent disability
- ₹5,000 as funeral assistance
- ₹16,000 as maternity assistance to women workers
- Full tuition fees for higher education of workers’ children under the College Education Promotion Scheme
Gig and Platform Workers Included
In line with NITI Aayog’s initiative, gig and platform workers have also been included under the Sambal Yojana, with registration already underway. These beneficiaries are entitled to all scheme benefits, including subsidised food grains through ration cards provided under central and state government schemes.
Strengthening Social Security for Workers
The Sambal Yojana continues to play a crucial role in strengthening social security for unorganised sector workers in Madhya Pradesh. With direct benefit transfers and expanded coverage, the scheme reinforces the state government’s commitment to inclusive development and the welfare of its labour force.
