Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government is set to bring a welcome gift for senior citizens and divyangs (persons with disabilities) in the New Year, with plans to increase pension amounts under the state’s social assistance schemes. Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Narayan Singh Kushwaha, confirmed that the proposal to enhance pensions has been submitted to the Finance Department and that the Chief Minister is personally monitoring the matter. The increase is expected to be reflected in the upcoming state budget.
Over 54 Lakh Beneficiaries to Gain

He said, “Currently, under the social assistance programs, a total of 54,21,863 beneficiaries—including widows, divyangs, and senior citizens—receive pensions amounting to Rs 325 crore per month.”
He further added that 100% of the beneficiaries have completed their KYC verification, ensuring transparency and efficiency in disbursal. On the proposed pension hike, the minister emphasized that the proposal has already been sent to the Finance Department and that the Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is keen on implementing the increase.
Establishment of Transgender Board
In another major announcement, Minister Kushwaha said that the state is set to establish a Transgender Board (Ubhaylingi Board). He stated that the process for its formation has been completed, and the board is expected to be officially constituted within a week.
Marriage Calendars for Scheduled Tribes and General Population
The minister also shared details regarding the state’s annual marriage calendar, aimed at promoting organized and culturally sensitive matrimonial events. He said that for girls’ marriages and civic body ceremonies, three auspicious dates—Basant Panchami, Akshaya Tritiya, and Tulsi Vivah—have been designated annually for each division.
Additionally, for Scheduled Tribes residing in notified tribal areas, a separate calendar with four dates has been released to conduct mass marriage programs. These programs will accommodate a minimum of 11 couples and a maximum of 200 couples per event, respecting tribal customs and traditions.
Commitment to Social Welfare
Through these initiatives, the Madhya Pradesh government aims to provide financial support and social security to its elderly and divyang population while promoting cultural and traditional values through organized marriage programs.
