Bhopal: In a recent announcement, the Madhya Pradesh state government has approved a 55% dearness allowance (DA) for IAS, IPS, and IFS officers posted in the state, as well as employees serving on deputation in the state. This revised DA rate, effective from January 1, 2025, comes as a result of an order issued by the Finance Department of the state government on April 17, 2025. The DA rate for these employees had previously been set at 53%, and the increase brings it in line with the newly approved DA rate for Central Government employees.
However, despite the increase, Madhya Pradesh employees and officers will now receive 5% less DA than their counterparts in the Central Government. This gap has widened compared to last month, when the difference stood at 3%. The Central Government’s decision to raise the DA by an additional 2% from January 2025 has contributed to this disparity.
The revision, which will apply to all members of the All India Services in Madhya Pradesh, will see the DA rate increase to 55% of the basic salary. This adjustment will be implemented in cash payments to the officers and employees of the state, as confirmed by the recent communication from the state Finance Department.
This decision follows the Central Government’s approval of a 55% DA for its employees, also effective from January 2025, as per a directive issued on April 2, 2025. The increased DA for Central Government employees will take effect alongside the state government’s adjustments, but the employees of Madhya Pradesh will continue to lag behind by 5%, which could have implications for employee morale and expectations.
The 55% DA will apply to all officers and employees working in various state departments, as well as those in key positions such as department heads, divisional commissioners, and district collectors. The implementation is part of ongoing efforts to address inflationary pressures and maintain parity with the allowances provided by the Central Government.
As the gap between state and central dearness allowances grows, it remains to be seen how this development will impact the overall satisfaction and welfare of state government employees in Madhya Pradesh.
