Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav led the grand celebration of Shri Krishna Janmashtami, also observed as Haldhar Mahotsav and Leeladhar Prakatotsav, at his residence in Bhopal on Saturday. The celebrations were marked by spiritual devotion, cultural vibrancy, and the participation of over 1,000 children dressed as Bal Krishna and Radha, creating a Krishna-filled atmosphere.
“Every Footstep of Shri Krishna Is Sacred”: CM Yadav
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Dr. Yadav declared that all the places associated with Lord Krishna’s leelas and travels are being developed as pilgrimage sites by the state government. “Like the Ram Vanagaman Path, the state is working on ‘Shri Krishna Patheya’, which will include the development of sacred sites like Ujjain’s Sandipani Ashram, Janapav and Amjhera in Dhar,” he said.
The CM emphasized that these sites are as holy as Gokul, and the government is committed to preserving and promoting the spiritual and cultural legacy of Lord Krishna across Madhya Pradesh.

Prizes Announced for Temple Decorations Across MP
To promote Janmashtami celebrations at the community level, the Chief Minister announced that the government will award 15 prizes for attractive decoration in temples:
- 3 prizes of ₹1.50 lakh each
- 5 prizes of ₹1 lakh each
- 7 prizes of ₹51,000 each
These prizes are intended to encourage public participation and beautification of over 3,000 Shri Krishna temples across the state, where Janmashtami is being celebrated in collaboration with local MPs, ministers, MLAs, and citizens.
Grand Cultural Celebrations: Pot Breaking, Music & Devotion
The festivities began with Jalabhishek, Puja-Archana, and lamp lighting by CM Yadav, accompanied by ISKCON temple priests chanting Vedic mantras. Idols of Laddoo Gopal, Krishna literature, and prasadi were distributed to devotees by ISKCON International.
A traditional Dahi-Handi pot-breaking ceremony, accompanied by flower showers and chants of “Haathi Ghoda Palki, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki”, was also held. CM Yadav joined the celebrations by singing ‘Govinda Aala Re’ and interacting affectionately with children dressed as Krishna and Radha.
The program included soulful musical performances based on the divine leelas of Shri Krishna and Radharani, which were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience and the Chief Minister himself.

“Shri Krishna’s Life: A Message of Social Harmony, Action, and Culture”
CM Yadav reflected on the philosophical and social teachings of Lord Krishna, highlighting:
- His role in establishing democracy by opposing Kansa
- His karmayogi philosophy as delivered in the Bhagavad Gita
- His rebellious childhood acts as symbols of resistance against injustice
- His unwavering support for Dharma during the Mahabharata
The CM also noted that Krishna, even as the king of Dwarka, did not pass on the throne to his son and always wore a peacock feather, symbolizing his rural cultural heritage.
Initiatives to Promote Krishna’s Legacy and Cultural Education
CM Yadav highlighted several government efforts to instill values from Shri Krishna and Lord Ram’s lives among the younger generation:
- Establishment of Sandipani Schools for holistic and value-based education
- Launch of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana to protect cows and boost milk-based income for farmers
- Encouraging social harmony through examples like Krishna-Sudama friendship
A Celebration for All Generations
Thousands of families attended the celebration, with mothers, sisters, and children receiving Panjiri, Makhan Mishri, and prasadi. CM Yadav warmly interacted with children, lifting them in his arms and posing for group photos, turning the event into a memorable family and spiritual celebration.
