New Delhi: The Central Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an official notification confirming the induction of four officers from the Madhya Pradesh State Police Service (SPS) into the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre. This promotion follows the 2024 Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) process for filling vacant IPS positions and marks a significant milestone in the careers of these officers.

The officers promoted from the Madhya Pradesh SPS to IPS include:
- Vikrant Murab (1997 batch)
- Surendra Kumar Jain (1998 batch)
- Ashish Khare (1998 batch)
- Rajesh Raghuvanshi (1998 batch)

Departmental Promotion Committee Process
The DPC for 2024 vacancies conducted its final meeting in November 2025, which led to the formal promotion of the four officers. Initially, a meeting scheduled in September 2025 was postponed due to administrative reasons. During the DPC deliberations, the names of 15 officers from the 1997–98 batches were considered for promotion based on seniority and performance.
The seniority list had Sitaram Sasthya and Amrit Meena at the top. However, Sitaram Sasthya’s promotion was delayed due to a pending departmental inquiry, and Amrit Meena’s case was held back owing to issues with caste certificate verification. Consequently, the DPC awarded the IPS cadre positions to the four other eligible officers.
Significance of the Promotion
The promotion of these officers to IPS cadre represents both recognition of merit and an important step in ensuring the integration of capable state police personnel into the central policing framework. IPS officers hold key roles in law enforcement, public safety, internal security, and administration, making such promotions vital for strengthening policing capabilities at both state and national levels.
This move is expected to motivate other state police officers, reinforcing a career path that rewards consistent performance, seniority, and integrity.
Looking Ahead
The four newly promoted IPS officers will undergo a probationary period, after which they will be eligible for higher postings in the Madhya Pradesh Police and central law enforcement agencies. Their induction into the IPS cadre is seen as a boost to policing standards and will contribute to the overall efficiency and professionalism of the state and national law enforcement systems.
The MHA’s notification not only marks the culmination of a structured promotion process but also highlights the commitment to transparent and merit-based advancement in India’s policing framework.
