Mumbai: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav addressed the Mumbai Climate Week 2026, emphasizing that climate change is no longer just an environmental issue but a challenge to human survival and economic stability. He stressed that development and environment should no longer be seen as opposing forces, highlighting the state’s commitment to balanced and sustainable progress.
States’ Role Crucial in Tackling Climate Change
CM Yadav underlined the need for time-bound, concrete action to address the climate crisis, asserting that states play a decisive role in mitigation. He pointed out Madhya Pradesh’s rapid emergence as a leader in renewable energy production and assured investors of full support and security for investments in the green energy sector.

MoU Signed with Sequoia Climate Foundation
During the event, the Department of New and Renewable Energy, Madhya Pradesh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sequoia Climate Foundation, Hyderabad. The partnership aims to accelerate green energy projects in the state, reinforcing collaboration for sustainable development.
Focus on 24×7 Renewable Energy and Battery Storage
The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s efforts to ensure continuous renewable energy supply through innovative projects:
- 300 MW, 4-hour solar-plus energy storage project
- 300 MW, 6-hour solar-plus energy storage project
- Development of battery-based energy storage systems for uninterrupted power
He noted that over the past 12 years, Madhya Pradesh’s solar energy capacity has grown by 48% annually and wind energy by 19%, supplying surplus clean energy to neighboring states and Indian Railways.
Flagship Projects: Omkareshwar Floating Solar and Sanchi Solar City
CM Yadav highlighted two landmark initiatives:
- Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project – among the world’s largest floating solar energy projects, operational without displacement.
- Sanchi Solar City – the first solar city in India, with accelerated installation of solar rooftops on government buildings.
These projects reflect the state’s strategy to integrate green technology and energy security.
EV Policy and Green Technology Initiatives
Madhya Pradesh was the first state in India to implement an EV policy, promoting investment in solar, wind, biofuel, green hydrogen, and energy storage. Minister Rakesh Shukla emphasized battery storage-based renewable energy production as a top priority and invited investors to capitalize on the state’s pro-business policies.
Global Recognition and Investor Confidence
International organizations praised Madhya Pradesh’s initiatives:
- Imad N. Fakhouri, Regional Director, IFC South Asia, lauded the state’s investor-friendly policies for 24×7 renewable energy.
- Seema Paul, India Director, Sequoia Climate Foundation, confirmed long-term collaboration with the state for renewable energy growth.
Experts from India and abroad attended, reaffirming MP’s commitment to energy security, environmental protection, and sustainable development.
