The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has issued a strong statement condemning the alleged “backdoor” entries into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) under the ruling NDPP-BJP coalition government in Nagaland. Calling the situation a threat to the sanctity of India’s premier civil service, the RPP accused the government of discarding established norms and “throwing every rule book into the dustbin” by arbitrarily inducting individuals into the IAS cadre.
In its statement, the RPP highlighted the critical difference between “cadre” and “ex-cadre” employees, noting that while cadre officials enter service through competitive and constitutional bodies like the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), many ex-cadre employees are allegedly political appointees with no transparent recruitment process. The party raised concerns that such practices undermine meritocracy and institutional credibility.
Referring to similar concerns previously voiced by associations like CANSSEA, FONSESA, NSSA, and NF&ASA, the RPP recalled a past incident where a candidate allegedly entered the IAS through non-transparent means, which at the time went unnoticed due to lack of public scrutiny and an inactive opposition.
Now that the issue is in the public spotlight, the RPP has demanded full disclosure of the name of the individual reportedly receiving political favoritism and urged the concerned associations to confirm whether the candidate in question was initially appointed via an ex-cadre route.
Describing the development as a clear example of manipulation in an “oppositionless government,” the RPP expressed support for the associations voicing dissent and vowed to continue its fight to ensure only deserving and qualified individuals enter the civil service.
