Rajasthan: Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, inaugurated two major transmission infrastructure projects of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) in Rajasthan, marking a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s renewable energy transmission network.
Developed with a combined investment of over ₹3,600 crore, the projects are designed to facilitate large-scale evacuation of renewable energy from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in the state, reinforcing India’s clean energy ambitions.
Major Transmission Projects Commissioned
The two key projects inaugurated include:
1. Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) – Phase-III Part-B1
This project comprises:
765/400/220 kV Bhadla-III Substation
765 kV Double-Circuit Bhadla-III–Sikar-II Transmission Line
2. Transmission System Strengthening Scheme for Evacuation of Power from Solar Energy Zones in Rajasthan (8.1 GW) – Phase-II Part-E
This includes:
765 kV Double-Circuit Bhadla-II–Sikar-II Second Transmission Line
These projects are aimed at enhancing transmission capacity to evacuate renewable energy efficiently from high-generation zones in Rajasthan.
Boost to Renewable Energy from Bhadla Region
The transmission systems are strategically developed to support evacuation of renewable power from the Bhadla region, home to one of the world’s largest solar parks with a capacity exceeding 2.2 GW.
By strengthening grid connectivity from these Renewable Energy Zones, the projects ensure reliable integration of large-scale solar power into the national grid, supporting India’s ambitious clean energy targets.
Strengthening India’s National Transmission Network
POWERGRID, a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, continues to play a pivotal role in building a robust, future-ready national transmission infrastructure.
The newly inaugurated systems further enhance grid reliability and facilitate seamless transmission of green energy, contributing to the country’s long-term economic growth and sustainable development.
POWERGRID’s Expanding National Footprint
As of 15 February 2026, POWERGRID has:
- Commissioned and is operating 290 Substations
- Established more than 1,84,370 circuit kilometers (ckm) of transmission lines
- Built 6,02,016 MVA of transformation capacity across the nation
Through the adoption of advanced technological tools, automation, and digital solutions, the company has maintained an impressive average transmission system availability of over 99.84%, reflecting operational excellence and reliability.
Strengthened Grid Capacity
The inauguration of these ₹3,600 crore transmission projects underscores the Government of India’s commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure and ensuring efficient power evacuation from key solar zones.
With strengthened grid capacity in Rajasthan, particularly from the Bhadla solar hub, the projects mark another decisive step toward building a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem for the nation.
