New Delhi: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has joined hands with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to strengthen 42 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The initiative focuses on digital education, health, and capacity building under NCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
Empowering Tribal Students Through Education
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has established EMRS to provide quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children, enabling access to higher and professional studies. These schools also ensure nutrition, healthcare, and holistic development. Currently, 479 EMRS are functional across India.
Recognizing the role of CSR in empowering tribal youth, the Ministry, under the leadership of Jual Oram, Minister of Tribal Affairs, has partnered with NCL to support innovative learning and digital inclusion.
NCL’s CSR Commitment
NCL has committed ₹5 crore under CSR funding for the project. The initiative will provide:
- 950 computers and 950 UPS
- 90 tablets for digital learning
- 430 sanitary pad vending machines
- 430 sanitary pad incinerators
The project will be implemented by the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), a Section 8 company under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, in a time-bound manner.
Key Objectives of the Initiative
