New Delhi: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Scheduled Tribe Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) for CSR-funded infrastructure development in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS). The agreement aims to enhance the quality of education and facilities for tribal students across India.
Focus on Digital Learning, Skills, and Mentorship
The MoU emphasizes empowering tribal students through modern digital learning systems, career mentorship, skill-based initiatives, and infrastructure upgrades.
“Education is our most powerful tool against generational poverty. When combined with skills and strong institutional partnerships, it ensures that every tribal child receives not just learning, but a real livelihood,” said Ranjana Chopra, Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The signing ceremony took place at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi, with the MoU exchanged between:
- Ms Bismita Das, Deputy General Manager, NSTFDC
- Ms Krishna Hazarika Rao, DGM, OIL
- Mr Abhinav Dixit, GM, CSR, NCL
The event was also attended by senior officials, including Chetna Shukla, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Coal.
Financial Support for EMRS Upgrades
NCL: Sanctioned Rs 5 crore to enhance digital learning infrastructure in 45 EMRS across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, benefiting over 10,000 tribal students.
Oil India Ltd: Allocated approximately Rs 73 lakh to strengthen five EMRS in Arunachal Pradesh by providing diesel generators and solar streetlights, addressing power supply challenges in remote areas.
These initiatives will ensure uninterrupted education, safer campus environments, and equal learning opportunities for tribal children.
Alignment with Government’s EMRS Scheme
The initiative aligns with the Central Sector Scheme on Eklavya Model Residential Schools, which aims to provide quality education and holistic development for tribal children. Currently, 479 EMRS institutions are functional across India, promoting academics, technology, and cultural growth.
Corporate Social Responsibility for Inclusive Development
The partnership between NCL, OIL, and NSTFDC reflects the broader CSR efforts to enhance socio-economic development among tribal communities. It supports the national vision of “Viksit Bharat” through inclusive, sustainable growth in education and community development.
