Singrauli: In a proactive step towards enhancing safety standards and fostering a culture of zero harm, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) recently conducted a Special Safety Review Workshop at the NCL Headquarters Auditorium. The event was held under the theme “Empowering Mines for a Safer Tomorrow” and aimed to strengthen safety practices across all operational areas of the company.
CMD B. Sairam Highlights Safety Challenges Amid Rising Production
Addressing the gathering, Mr. B. Sairam, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NCL, emphasized the growing challenge of ensuring safety alongside rising production targets. He stressed that these challenges could be effectively tackled through the adoption of digitization and advanced technologies.
Mr. Sairam advocated for the integration of global best practices in digital transformation to boost operational excellence and safety performance. He outlined NCL’s ongoing digital initiatives in coal transportation, operational workflows, and land acquisition, highlighting how technology can serve as a critical enabler for continuous safety improvement.

Keynote Address by Safety Expert Mr. T. K. Nag
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. T. K. Nag, former CMD of NCL and Chairman of the High-Level Safety Expert Committee. Drawing on his extensive experience in the coal sector, Mr. Nag shared valuable insights into advanced safety strategies and best practices observed in mines nationwide.
He discussed critical components of effective safety management including the Safety Management Plan, Root Cause Analysis, Safety Audits, and the adoption of digitization in safety processes. His speech reinforced the importance of a systematic and technology-driven approach to mitigating risks in mining operations.
