Bihar: New Government Polytechnic College, Patna-13 Wins “Umang-2026” State-Level Polytechnic Sports Championship

NGP Patna-13 excels in cricket, table tennis, badminton, kabaddi, chess, and volleyball to top the overall standings at Bihar’s “Umang-2026” polytechnic festival.

Patna: New Government Polytechnic College (NGP), Patna-13 emerged as the overall champion of “Umang-2026”, the state-level polytechnic sports and extracurricular festival organized by the Department of Science, Technology, and Technical Education, Bihar. The event concluded with thrilling competitions in volleyball, kabaddi, badminton, table tennis, cricket, and chess from 7th to 9th February 2026.

Highlights of “Umang-2026” Competitions

Cricket

Rajkiya Polytechnic, Kishanganj defeated Rajkiya Polytechnic, Gopalganj to claim the boys’ cricket title, showcasing excellent team coordination and skill.

Table Tennis

  • Girls’ Category: Students from Rajkiya Mahila Polytechnic, Patna (Diploma 1st & 2nd Year, CSE & EE branches) – Priya Bharti, Sandhya Kumari, Muskan Kumari, and Sakshi Kumari – won the championship.
  • Runner-Up: Rajkiya Mahila Polytechnic, Bhagalpur students – Rajshri, Riya Raj, Happy Kumari, and Muskan Kumari.
  • Boys’ Category: Rajkiya Polytechnic, Bhagalpur clinched the title, defeating NGP-13 Patna.

Chess

  • Girls’ Category: Shreya Raj, Diploma CSE branch, Rajkiya Mahila Polytechnic, Muzaffarpur – 1st place; Pratika Rawat, Patna – 2nd place.
  • Boys’ Category: Monu Kumar, Diploma Civil branch, Rajkiya Polytechnic, Banka – 1st place; Shubham, Rajkiya Polytechnic, Munger – 2nd place.

Badminton

  • Girls’ Category: Rajkiya Polytechnic, Patna students Arpita Kumari, Dipali Kumari, Anisha Kumari, and Aditi Kashyap – winners. Rajkiya Polytechnic, Katihar – runner-up.
  • Boys’ Category: Rajkiya Polytechnic, Motihari – winners; Rajkiya Polytechnic, Jehanabad – runner-up.

Kabaddi

  • Girls’ Category: Rajkiya Polytechnic, Katihar – winners; NGP-13 Patna – runner-up.

Volleyball

  • Girls’ Category: Rajkiya Polytechnic, Asthawan – winners; Rajkiya Polytechnic, Saharsa – runner-up.

Statewide Participation and Recognition

Students from various polytechnic institutes across Bihar participated and showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship. Winners were awarded trophies and medals, while the combined performance across sports, literary, and cultural activities crowned New Government Polytechnic College, Patna-13 as the overall champion.

Looking Ahead

Following the polytechnic-level competitions, state-level contests for engineering college students are set to begin, continuing the momentum of Umang-2026 and promoting sports and extracurricular excellence among youth in Bihar.
