New Delhi: In a major step toward nurturing grassroots sports talent, NHPC Limited has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The agreement marks the official launch of “Shakti Saadhana – Empowering Weightlifters for Sporting Brilliance”, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative focused on developing young weightlifting talent across the nation.
The MoU was signed on June 16, 2025, at the SAI headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Mr Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC.

Supporting Youthful Potential Across India
Under this initiative, NHPC will extend critical support to promising weightlifters aged between 9 and 13 years from 30 States and Union Territories. The support will include:
- Residential training programs
- Professional coaching
- Physiotherapy and injury management
- Access to modern training infrastructure and nutrition plans
The project aims to foster the next generation of elite weightlifters by offering structured and holistic athletic development from a young age.
Commitment to Sporting Excellence
The MoU was signed by key representatives of the three organizations – Mr Miren Kumar Verma, Head of CSR & Sustainable Development Division, NHPC; Mr Kamkhan Singh, Under Secretary, NSDF; and Col. N.S. Johal, CEO (TOPS), SAI.
Speaking on the occasion, NHPC representatives emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to nation-building not only through infrastructure but also through empowerment initiatives in sports, education, and health.
