In a major step toward strengthening India’s renewable energy infrastructure, NHPC Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to jointly develop pumped storage and other renewable energy projects in the state of Rajasthan.
Under the agreement, two pumped storage projects, each with a capacity of 1,000 MW, are being considered for development in the first phase. These projects will be executed in Joint Venture Mode, combining the technical expertise and resources of both entities.
The MoU was signed by Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical), NHPC, and Devendra Shringi, CMD, RVUNL. The ceremony took place in the presence of Smt. Arti Dogra, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and Chairman (Discoms), Government of Rajasthan. Senior officials from both NHPC and the Rajasthan government, including the Executive Director (SBD&C) of NHPC, also attended the event.
This partnership highlights Rajasthan’s growing role in India’s renewable energy journey and reflects NHPC’s commitment to diversifying beyond hydropower into pumped storage, solar, wind, and other clean energy solutions.
