NHPC Teesta-V Partners with Gangtok Administration to Build ₹660.55 Lakh Special School for Children with Disabilities

Inclusive Education Initiative under CSR-SD Program to Provide Holistic Learning and Support for Specially-Abled Children in Sikkim

Gangtok, Sikkim: In a landmark initiative for inclusive education, NHPC Teesta-V Power Station, Balutar has partnered with the Gangtok District Administration to construct a Special School for Children with Disabilities. The project, funded under NHPC’s CSR-SD (Corporate Social Responsibility – Social Development) program, carries a total support of ₹660.55 lakh.

MoU Signed for Collaborative Effort

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 24 February 2026 by Mr. Tushar G. Nikhare, IAS, District Collector cum Magistrate of Gangtok, and Mr. Jitendra Kumar, Executive Director and Head of Project, NHPC Teesta-V Power Station.

Senior officers from both the District Administration and NHPC were present at the ceremony, reflecting the shared commitment to enhancing education and support for specially-abled children in Sikkim.

Special School to Provide Holistic Education

The proposed school is expected to be completed within three years and will offer world-class education and support services tailored to children with disabilities. The project aims to ensure that students receive holistic care, learning opportunities, and an inclusive environment, strengthening Sikkim’s infrastructure for special education.

Focus on Social Development and Accessibility

This initiative underscores NHPC’s dedication to social development, particularly in providing educational infrastructure for vulnerable groups. It also reflects the Gangtok administration’s focus on improving accessibility and support for children with special needs, making inclusive education a priority in the region.
