Chennai: NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), the state-owned power company, announced on Saturday that it has won a contract from SJVN Ltd to develop and operate a 200 MW wind power project. The contract was secured through an e-reverse auction at a competitive tariff of Rs 3.74 per kWh.
The 200 MW project is expected to generate 526 million units (MU) of clean, green energy each year, significantly offsetting an equivalent amount of greenhouse gas emissions. NLCIL emphasized that this project aligns with the company’s broader commitment to sustainability and clean energy solutions.
Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman & Managing Director of NLC India Ltd, highlighted the company’s ambitious goal of achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. He stated, “Winning this 200 MW wind project further strengthens our commitment to sustainable and clean energy solutions. Our investments in renewable energy will play a crucial role in strengthening India’s green economy and meeting global climate commitments.”
The company’s renewable energy journey began in 2013 with a 51 MW wind project, and this new contract marks a significant expansion of NLCIL’s wind energy portfolio. With this addition, NLCIL’s total wind power capacity will exceed 300 MW, including ongoing projects.
The statement also noted that this project would contribute to India’s goal of increasing non-fossil fuel-based power generation. This is in line with the National Green Energy Policy and the government’s target to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
