Jaipur: In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy ambitions, state-run NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) announced on Tuesday that its renewable energy arm, NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) for its upcoming 810 MW solar power project in Rajasthan.
The agreement was signed at a formal ceremony in Jaipur, marking a major milestone for NIRL, which is a 100% subsidiary of NLCIL. The solar project, located in the Bikaner district, is strategically positioned to leverage the region’s high solar irradiance and is expected to play a critical role in meeting the country’s clean energy targets.
“This 810 MW project is not just our largest solar initiative, it is a symbol of our resolve to lead India’s green energy future,” said Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL. “We are proud to collaborate with RVUNL and the State of Rajasthan in this transformative effort.”
The project was awarded through a competitive tariff-based bidding process conducted by RVUNL. Once operational, it is projected to generate approximately 2 billion units of green power annually and will help offset nearly 1.5 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
This initiative further strengthens NLCIL’s growing renewable energy portfolio and underscores the government’s commitment to transitioning toward a low-carbon economy. The collaboration between NIRL and RVUNL also reflects the synergy between central and state agencies in expanding India’s clean energy infrastructure.
