New Delhi: In a key development within India’s security and paramilitary leadership, Brigu Srinivasan, a 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, is emerging as the top contender for the post of Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Currently serving as Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG), India’s premier counter-terrorism force, Srinivasan is likely to succeed the incumbent CISF chief, who is due to retire in September 2025.
From NSG to CISF: Transition in Sight
Srinivasan took over as DG of NSG on August 28, 2024, and is slated to continue in service until August 31, 2027, his scheduled date of superannuation. Sources in the security establishment reveal that his transfer to CISF is “under active consideration,” and an official announcement is expected shortly.
If appointed, Srinivasan would lead CISF at a crucial time, with the force playing an expanded role in protecting critical infrastructure, airports, and key public sector undertakings across India.

Career and Background
Before his elevation to NSG, Brigu Srinivasan served as Director of the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, and was empanelled for DG rank in February 2024. Known for his calm leadership style and operational acumen, Srinivasan is seen as well-suited to lead CISF’s modernization and strategic expansion.
Academic Credentials
He holds a Ph.D. degree, further underlining his academic depth in addition to decades of field and command experience across Indian policing institutions.
