Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon inaugurated the 2025 edition of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), a key initiative focused on fostering leadership, confidence, and personal growth among young girls from underprivileged backgrounds. This marks the fourth consecutive year of GEM at Bongaigaon, with 40 girls from 12 local schools enrolled in the month-long program.
The launch event was held with great enthusiasm and was graced by Kokrajhar District Commissioner Masanda Partin (IAS), NTPC Bongaigaon Head of Project Arnab Maitra, and President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club Kasturi Maitra. The inauguration set the tone for a transformative experience aimed at holistic development—physical, emotional, and mental—for girls aged 10 to 12 years.
Holistic Learning & Cultural Celebration
The program commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting, NTPC’s theme song, and a vibrant cultural programme featuring performances by students from Bal Bhawan and Notre Dame Academy. A theatrical act titled ‘Educating the Girl Child’ captivated the audience, while a short film showcased past GEM successes. Alumni of the initiative shared their inspiring journeys of growth and confidence.
Leadership Voices on Empowerment
Speaking at the event, DC Masanda Partin highlighted the far-reaching impact of empowering girls not just on individual lives but across entire families and communities. Head of Project Arnab Maitra described GEM as a cornerstone of NTPC’s CSR philosophy, built on the pillars of inclusivity, opportunity, and education.
Guests & Community Participation
The ceremony saw participation from several dignitaries including Chief General Manager (O&M) Debarata Kar, Vice President of Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club Soumya Kar, CISF Commandant LN Meitei, and HR department leaders. Union leaders, welfare body members, and parents of the selected girls were also in attendance, underscoring community involvement.
Running from July 1 to July 30, the GEM 2025 edition promises to provide an enriching, structured experience that instills discipline, self-belief, and a strong sense of purpose.
With over 12,700 girls empowered across India through GEM to date, this initiative continues to be a benchmark in corporate-led social transformation, contributing meaningfully to gender equality, educational equity, and sustainable development.
