In a significant stride towards sustainable water management and environmental conservation, NTPC Korba has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nagar Nigam Korba to set up a Tertiary Sewage Water Treatment Plant in the city. The initiative aims to promote the reuse of treated sewage water for industrial operations at the NTPC Korba plant.
NTPC has earmarked a substantial investment of ₹111 crore for the establishment of this advanced treatment facility. The plant will enable the large-scale recycling of sewage water, making Korba the first city in Chhattisgarh to implement such a system for industrial reuse. This move is seen as a milestone in the state’s journey toward sustainable urban infrastructure and responsible industrial development.
The MoU signing ceremony was held in the presence of Smt. Sanju Devi, Mayor of Korba, and Shri Ashutosh Pandey, IAS, Commissioner of Nagar Nigam Korba. Senior officials from both NTPC and the municipal corporation also attended the event. Representing NTPC were Shri Rajeev Khanna, Executive Director of NTPC Korba, along with Shri Shashi Shekhar (AGM, HR), Shri Manoj Kumar Rajak (AGM, TS), Shri Shailendra Yadav (DGM, P&S), Shri Jeevaraj Jat (DGM, FES), and Shri Shashank Chhajer (Senior Manager, HR).
This isn’t NTPC Korba’s first step toward environmental stewardship. The plant had earlier contributed more than ₹14 crore toward the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in the city, showcasing its sustained commitment to community welfare and ecological responsibility.
The Korba Super Thermal Power Plant, situated at Jamnipali in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, is one of NTPC’s major coal-based facilities. The plant sources coal from the nearby Kusmunda and Gevra mines. Operated by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), a central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, the plant plays a vital role in meeting India’s growing energy demands. NTPC’s headquarters are located in New Delhi.
This collaboration between NTPC and Nagar Nigam Korba sets a benchmark for public-private partnerships in environmental conservation and resource management, aligning with national goals for sustainable industrial growth and water security.
