Mumbai: In a spirited display of enthusiasm and community spirit, NTPC Western Region-I Headquarters (WR-I HQs) celebrated National Sports Day 2025 at its Powai Township. The event focused on promoting fitness, wellness, and unity, in line with this year’s national theme — “Sport to Promote Peaceful Societies.”

Energizing Start with a Walkathon

The celebrations began on an active note with a walkathon that saw widespread participation from employees and their family members. The walkathon not only encouraged physical activity but also fostered a sense of camaraderie among all attendees.

Fit India Pledge: A Commitment to Healthy Living

Post the walkathon, Santosh Kumar Takhele, RED (West-I) and CEO of RGPPL, led the gathering in taking the Fit India Pledge. The pledge emphasized the importance of incorporating fitness into daily life and called on all participants to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Honoring the Legacy of Major Dhyan Chand

National Sports Day is observed annually on August 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Indian hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The day honors the nation’s sporting heroes while promoting the value of physical fitness in everyday life.

By blending fun, fitness, and formal commitment, NTPC WR-I HQs set a strong example of how corporate entities can actively contribute to national initiatives. The 2025 celebration not only brought the NTPC community together but also highlighted the broader role of sports in fostering social harmony and personal well-being.
