NTPC Limited, a leading state-owned power company, announced on Monday the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GRIDCO, an Odisha government enterprise, and the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), the state’s public transport agency. The agreement focuses on advancing green hydrogen infrastructure in Odisha.
Under the agreement, NTPC will establish a green hydrogen fuelling station in Bhubaneswar, along with deploying hydrogen-powered buses for both short- and long-distance routes. This initiative aims to promote clean energy adoption and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, contributing to decarbonisation and energy sustainability in the state.
The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has provided partial funding for the Bhubaneswar project. NTPC’s efforts align with its broader green energy goals, including operating a green hydrogen blending initiative in Surat for the past two years and similar projects in Leh, Greater Noida, and Kandla in Gujarat. Additionally, the company is developing a green hydrogen hub in Visakhapatnam.
NTPC has set an ambitious target to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, further solidifying its commitment to clean energy and sustainability.
