NTPC has launched the 2025 session of its flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) at its Unchahar project, continuing a six-year tradition of nurturing the potential of rural girls under its community development initiatives.
The inauguration ceremony was marked by the lighting of the traditional lamp by Shri Abhay Kumar Srivastava, Head of Project, NTPC Unchahar, and Smt. Anupama Srivastava, President of the Priyadarshini Ladies Club. The event began with the NTPC theme song, symbolising the organisation’s commitment to empowerment, progress, and equality.
A total of 120 girls, aged 10 to 12, from 13 nearby schools have been enrolled in the programme. Over the course of the workshop, the focus will be on holistic development, aiming to boost confidence, instill leadership qualities, and encourage social and civic awareness among participants.
The event was attended by several dignitaries including Asutosh Biswas, GM (O&M), Jhumita Biswas, Vice-President of Priyadarshini Ladies Club, Ruma De Sharma, Head of HR, and members of the Uttara Ladies Club including Sangeeta Sinha and Nupur Dutta. Representatives from AITUC and INTUC, along with Heads of Departments, CISF officials, and members of the GEM 2025 organising committee, were also present.
A short film highlighting the journey of GEM 2024 was screened during the event, followed by a performance by alumni from the previous batch. The alumni shared their inspiring stories of personal growth and transformation, motivating the new participants as they embark on their own GEM journey.
