Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has extended the suspension of 2007 batch IPS officer of Odisha Cadre, Mr Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao for an additional 30 days, effective April 26, 2025, amid ongoing disciplinary proceedings. This marks the fourth consecutive extension since his initial suspension on July 30, 2024, following serious allegations of misconduct.
Mr Uttamrao was suspended after he allegedly forcibly entered the residence of a woman inspector on the night of July 27, 2024, and misbehaved with her and her husband. The incident, which raised widespread concern within the police department, triggered immediate disciplinary action.

A review committee headed by the Chief Secretary of Odisha met on April 24, 2025, to assess the matter. After examining relevant documents and case details, the panel recommended extending the suspension, citing the serious nature of the allegations and the need for continued inquiry.
Before his suspension, Uttamrao served as the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Fire Services and Home Guard. His extended suspension signals the state government’s zero-tolerance approach toward misconduct and its continued efforts to maintain discipline and accountability within the police force.
