Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has reported significant vacancies across key administrative and police services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and several state cadre posts.
Replying to a question by Lanjigarh MLA Pradip Kumar Dishari in the Assembly, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi shared details of the sanctioned strength and current vacancies in various services.
IAS, IPS and IFS Cadre Vacancy Details
According to the data presented in the Assembly:
- IAS: 248 sanctioned posts; 42 vacancies
- IPS: 195 sanctioned posts; 67 vacancies
- IFS (Indian Forest Service): 141 sanctioned posts; 66 vacancies
The Chief Minister clarified that appointments to the IAS, IPS, and IFS cadres are made by the Central Government.
Vacancies in Odisha State Services
The state government also shared vacancy data for state cadre services:
- Odisha Administrative Service (OAS): 2,248 sanctioned posts; 330 vacancies
- Odisha Police Service (OPS): 852 sanctioned posts; 147 vacancies
The government stated that necessary steps are being taken to fill vacancies in state services to ensure smooth administrative functioning.
Officers on Central Deputation
The Chief Minister further informed the House that several officers from Odisha are currently serving on central deputation:
- 27 IAS officers
- 28 IPS officers
- 7 IFS officers
These deputations have also contributed to the existing vacancies in the state.
Government Steps to Strengthen Administration
The Odisha government assured that appropriate measures are being taken, particularly for state cadre services, to address staffing gaps and strengthen governance across districts.
The issue of vacancies is significant as administrative efficiency, law enforcement, and forest management depend heavily on adequate staffing levels.
