On June 17th, two Maharatna PSUs operating under the Ministry of Petroleum Oil and Natural Gas, ONGC and Indian Oil Limited, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a small-scale Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant near the Hatta Gas Field in the Vindhyan Basin. This plat is expected to harbour cutting-edge technology to produce LNG, a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels, and significantly reduce carbon emissions to help India achieve its climate change mitigation goals. This is a visionary step towards a sustainable and prosperous future for India.
It must be noted that this project at Hatta is the culmination of five decades of sustained exploration efforts of the state-owned enterprises. The ONGC has already submitted its Field Development Plan (FDP) to the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) in a bid to monetise its assets in the Hatta area.
Against the backdrop of India’s persistent effort to achieve energy self-sufficiency, the Hatta LNG Plant shall serve as a symbol of innovation, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to a greener tomorrow.
