ONGC Appoints IAS Vinod Seshan as Government Nominee Director for Three-Year Term

New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has appointed IAS officer Vinod Seshan as a Government Nominee Director on its Board for a period of three years. The appointment became effective on March 9, 2026.

The decision was approved by the company’s board and disclosed to the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and BSE Limited in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, Seshan’s appointment as Government Nominee Director will be valid for a three-year term on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

ONGC also confirmed that Seshan is not debarred from holding the office of director by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) or any other regulatory authority. Additionally, the company stated that he does not have any relationship with other directors on the board.

Senior IAS Officer with Extensive Policy Experience

Seshan is a 2008-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Assam cadre and currently serves as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG).

He brings more than 20 years of professional experience, including over 17 years in policy-making, infrastructure development, project management, district administration, and crisis response.

Throughout his career, he has held multiple leadership roles as an administrator, team leader, and project director, contributing to several government initiatives and development projects.

Previous Board Experience

Seshan has also served on the boards of major public sector energy companies, including:

  • Oil India Limited
  • Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)

His experience in governance and public sector management is expected to contribute to ONGC’s strategic and operational decision-making.

Education and Early Career

Before joining the civil services, Seshan worked in the software services sector in India, handling responsibilities related to software development, testing, and knowledge management.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University in Karnataka.

He also earned Master’s degrees in Public Policy and Infrastructure, Investment and Finance from University College London (UCL).

His professional interests include large-scale infrastructure development, financing models, and sustainable development initiatives.
