New Delhi: The Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) on Thursday conducted a selection interview for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of SJVN Limited. However, the board did not recommend any candidate, leaving the top position vacant.
No Candidate Found Suitable
During the selection meeting, PESB interviewed two candidates for the position –
- Prem Prakash Srivastava, Senior General Manager (HR/A), UP (West) Circle, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited
- Ali Shah, Executive Director (Entity Appraisal-II, Learning & Development and Rajbhasha), Power Finance Corporation Limited
After evaluating the candidates, the board concluded that none met the requirements for the CMD role. PESB advised the administrative ministry, Ministry of Power, to decide on the next steps for filling the post, which could include forming a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) or other procedures approved by the competent authority.
Vacancy Since June 2025
The CMD position at SJVN Limited has been vacant since 20 June 2025. In the interim, Bhupender Gupta, CMD of NHPC Limited, has been holding the additional charge of SJVN Limited.
The PESB had earlier invited applications for the top post on 17 September 2025, signaling the board’s intent to fill the vacancy promptly. Despite this, the board’s decision indicates a continuing challenge in identifying a suitable leader for the strategic power sector company.
Way Forward
With PESB not recommending any candidate, the Ministry of Power will now determine the appropriate course of action. This may involve restarting the selection process or constituting a specialized Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) to identify a qualified CMD for SJVN Limited.
