New Delhi: The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, continues to gain international recognition as a powerful deterrent in maritime security. At the Raisina Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi, the Philippines expressed strong satisfaction with the missile system and indicated plans to acquire additional units to enhance its coastal defense capabilities.
Philippines Expresses Satisfaction with BrahMos
Speaking during the strategic conference in New Delhi, Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, said the military is “very happy” with the performance of the BrahMos missile systems already acquired under a defense agreement with India.
According to him, the missile has become a critical element of the country’s evolving coastal defense strategy, providing a significant boost to the Philippines’ ability to protect its maritime territory.

Plans to Procure More Missile Systems
The Philippine military leadership revealed that Manila is exploring the possibility of procuring additional BrahMossystems not only for the army but potentially for other branches of the armed forces as well.
The move is aimed at strengthening the country’s deterrence capability against potential external threats, particularly in contested maritime regions.
Key Role in Archipelagic Defense Strategy
The BrahMos missile forms an essential part of the Philippines’ Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept, a strategy designed to safeguard the nation’s vast maritime territory and its Exclusive Economic Zone.
This approach is particularly relevant in the strategically sensitive South China Sea, where territorial disputes and growing military activity have raised security concerns among regional countries.
High-Speed Precision Strike Capability
Known for its exceptional speed and accuracy, the BrahMos missile travels at nearly three times the speed of sound, making it one of the fastest cruise missiles in the world.
Its ability to carry out both anti-ship and land-attack missions gives the Philippines a powerful capability to deter hostile naval movements and protect its strategic waters.
Growing Defense Cooperation with India
The Philippines’ interest in expanding its BrahMos inventory also reflects deepening defense cooperation with India. New Delhi has increasingly emerged as a reliable defense partner for countries seeking advanced military systems to enhance regional security.
