Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh: In a significant push towards clean energy and regional development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone for two major hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh. The projects — Heo Hydro Electric Project (240 MW) and Tato-I Hydro Electric Project (186 MW) — are set to be developed in the Siyom sub-basin of Shi Yomi district by North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, in joint venture with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
Key Details of the Projects
Heo Hydro Electric Project:
- Capacity: 240 MW (3×80 MW)
- Expected Annual Generation: ~1,000 million units
- Tato-I Hydro Electric Project:
- Capacity: 186 MW (3×62 MW)
- Expected Annual Generation: ~803 million units
Together, these projects will contribute nearly 1,800 million units of clean energy per year, marking a major addition to India’s renewable energy grid and strengthening the country’s position on sustainable development.

Established in 1976, NEEPCO has been a cornerstone in Northeast India’s power development. With an installed capacity of 2,057 MW across hydro, gas, and solar, it plays a critical role in the energy security of the region. Since 2020, it has operated as a subsidiary of NTPC Limited.
NTPC: Powering India’s Energy Future
As India’s largest integrated power utility, NTPC Limited currently operates 83 GW of capacity and has 30.90 GW under construction, including 13.3 GW of renewable energy projects. The company aims to achieve 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032, making a strong contribution to India’s Net Zero ambitions.
