Gautam Buddha Nagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh on March 28 to inaugurate Phase I of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar. The inauguration marks a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure development and its integration into global transport networks.
The Prime Minister is expected to undertake a walkthrough of the airport’s terminal building at around 11:30 AM, followed by the formal inauguration at noon. He will also address a public gathering during the occasion.
Strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s Connectivity and Economic Landscape
The launch of Noida International Airport is anticipated to significantly enhance Uttar Pradesh’s connectivity and economic profile. Serving as a major international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR), the airport is designed to complement operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
By easing congestion and increasing passenger and cargo capacity, the two airports together are expected to function as an integrated aviation system, placing the Delhi-NCR region among leading global aviation hubs.
Phase I Infrastructure and Capabilities
Developed under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model at an estimated investment of ₹11,200 crore, Phase I of Noida International Airport is designed to initially handle 12 million passengers annually, with future expansion capacity up to 70 million passengers per year.
The airport features a 3,900-metre runway capable of accommodating wide-body aircraft and is equipped with advanced navigation systems to ensure all-weather, round-the-clock operations.
Designed as a sustainable, future-ready facility, the airport aims to operate as a net-zero emissions project, incorporating energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible practices. Its architectural design reflects Indian cultural heritage, blending modern construction with elements inspired by traditional ghats and havelis.
Economic Growth and Employment Opportunities
Beyond aviation, the project is expected to bring substantial benefits to the people of Uttar Pradesh. The airport will generate large-scale employment opportunities, boost tourism, and accelerate industrial growth in surrounding regions, including Noida, Greater Noida, and areas under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
Improved connectivity is also expected to facilitate faster movement of goods and services, benefiting local businesses, exporters, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Multi-Modal Cargo Hub and MRO Facilities
A key feature of Noida International Airport is its development as a multi-modal cargo hub. The airport will include an integrated cargo terminal and logistics zones, initially handling over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, with the capacity to expand up to 18 lakh metric tonnes.
In addition, a dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility is planned, which will help reduce aviation servicing costs and create high-skilled jobs, further strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as a logistics and export hub.
Multi-Modal Transport Connectivity
Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport will operate as a multi-modal transport hub with seamless integration to road, rail, metro, and regional transit systems. This connectivity is expected to significantly reduce travel time for residents and improve access across western and central Uttar Pradesh.
A Transformative Step in Uttar Pradesh’s Infrastructure Journey
The inauguration of Noida International Airport is being seen as a transformative step for Uttar Pradesh, with far-reaching economic and social benefits for millions of people. With advanced infrastructure, sustainable design, extensive cargo and logistics capabilities, and significant employment generation, the airport is poised to become a catalyst for regional growth and a key component of India’s aviation network.
