The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has achieved a significant milestone, reaching Rs. 1,000 crores in sales by October 2024—an impressive leap from the previous year, when this target was met in December 2023. This achievement underscores the growing trust and reliance of the public on affordable, quality medicines.

The remarkable progress is attributed to the unwavering support of citizens, who have embraced the initiative by purchasing medicines from over 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras nationwide. This growth reflects PMBI’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and affordable, reducing out-of-pocket expenses for patients. Notably, just a few days ago, PMBI recorded sales of Rs. 200 crores in September 2024 alone.

Over the past decade, the number of Kendras has increased more than 170-fold, expanding from just 80 in 2014 to over 14,000 today, covering nearly every district in the country.

Looking ahead, the government plans to establish 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras within the next two years. The PMBJP offers a diverse product range, including 2,047 medicines and 300 surgical devices that span major therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular health, anti-cancer treatments, anti-diabetics, anti-infectives, anti-allergics, gastrointestinal medicines, and nutraceuticals. Nearly 1 million people visit these user-friendly Kendras daily.

The PMBJP initiative continues to empower communities, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to every citizen. These record-breaking sales not only highlight the program’s success but also play a crucial role in promoting health equity across the country.
