Raipur: In a strong push for timely and effective implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, IAS officer Dr. Pooja Jain from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) reprimanded bank representatives over persistent loan-related issues delaying the installation of residential solar rooftop systems across Chhattisgarh.
PMO Steps In as Loan Hurdles Slow Down Scheme
During a high-level review meeting held at Vidyut Seva Bhavan, Dangania, Dr. Jain expressed serious displeasure at the procedural inefficiencies and inconsistent approaches adopted by banks in processing loans under the scheme. The officer highlighted that several cases were being cancelled after initial loan approval, and delays in disbursement were discouraging beneficiaries.
She directed banks to simplify the loan process, minimize documentation, and ensure clear communication with applicants regarding loan tenure and EMI amounts — steps necessary to prevent unnecessary rejection of applications.
Uniform Guidelines, Better Communication Stressed
Dr. Jain emphasized the need for uniformity across banks in the implementation process, pointing out that inconsistent practices were creating confusion among consumers and vendors alike.
Bank officials were told to proactively guide consumers about loan terms and conditions under the scheme and work with transparency to prevent information gaps.
Vendors, CSPDCL Also Briefed
Vendors involved in rooftop solar installations also raised concerns during the meeting. Dr. Jain instructed that these grievances be addressed immediately. She also advised CSPDCL (Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Ltd.), banks, and vendors to resolve implementation bottlenecks jointly to ensure the scheme’s goals are achieved within the stipulated timeline.
Senior Officials Present at the Review
The meeting was attended by CSPDCL Managing Director Bhim Singh Kanwar, Director R.A. Pathak, Executive Director S.K. Gajpal, and other senior officials from banks and implementing agencies.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a flagship rooftop solar scheme of the central government, aims to empower households by enabling them to generate free electricity through solar installations and reduce dependence on grid power.
