Chandigarh: In a new twist to the suspected suicide case of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar, his wife, Santosh, has levelled serious allegations against the family of late IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar. She claims that her husband was subjected to intense mental harassment and administrative pressure, which allegedly drove him to end his life on October 14 in Rohtak.
Santosh filed a formal complaint on October 15 at Sadar Police Station, Rohtak, leading to the registration of an FIR for abetment to suicide. The FIR names IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar (wife of late IGP Y. Puran Kumar), MLA Amit Rattan (Amneet’s brother), and two police personnel, Sunil Kumar and Sushil Kumar, among others. She has also demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an impartial and transparent probe.
FIR Mentions Political and Administrative Pressure
According to the FIR, accessed by The Times of India, ASI Sandeep Kumar had been part of an ongoing corruption probe registered at the Urban Estate Police Station, Rohtak. During the inquiry, he allegedly faced threats and pressure from several individuals associated with senior officials.
The FIR notes that Sushil Kumar, the gunman of late IGP Y. Puran Kumar, and Sunil Kumar, attached to the Rohtak Police’s security branch, “repeatedly approached and intimidated” the ASI. They allegedly invoked the names of powerful figures — IGP Y. Puran Kumar, his wife Amneet P. Kumar, MLA Amit Rattan, and a relative serving as Inspector General in the Commission for Scheduled Castes — to exert pressure.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
The FIR further states that during the investigation, Sushil Kumar (IGP Puran Kumar’s gunman) was arrested, and additional arrests were expected. However, before they could proceed, IGP Puran Kumar died by suicide. Following his death, Santosh alleges, his wife and brother began resisting the post-mortem examination and “pressuring the Haryana government to act against honest police officers involved in the case.”
Under this alleged political and administrative pressure, ASI Sandeep Kumar was “continuously harassed and mentally tortured.” His wife claims that for nearly a week before his death, he expressed hopelessness, saying that “honesty has no value” in the police force and that those who did their duty sincerely were being punished.
Wife’s Emotional Plea for Justice
Santosh said she discovered a suicide note near her husband’s body that reflected the “mental agony and coercion” he suffered. “My husband ultimately took the extreme step due to unbearable pressure and harassment caused by Amneet P. Kumar, her brother Amit Rattan, and their relatives holding high-ranking positions,” the FIR quotes her as saying.
She has demanded a CBI investigation, arguing that only an independent probe can uncover the “truth behind the nexus of corruption and harassment” her husband faced. She also urged authorities to investigate the properties of both families to establish “who is corrupt and who is honest.”
Concluding her statement, Santosh said she remains in deep trauma over her husband’s death but is determined to seek justice. “As and when any additional evidence or information comes to my notice, I will share it with the police,” she said.
What Happens Next
Police sources said the FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for abetment to suicide, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are yet to comment officially on whether the case will be handed over to the CBI as requested by the complainant.
