Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (PGCIL) announced on Friday that its board has approved an investment proposal worth Rs 673 crore for procuring converter transformers.
The decision was taken during the board meeting held earlier in the day.
According to an official statement, the board has sanctioned the procurement of six 397 MVA Converter Transformers for the Talcher-Kolar HVDC link under the Additional Capital Expenditure 2024-29 tariff block. The estimated cost of the project stands at Rs 673.08 crore, with commissioning targeted for September 2027.
The Talcher-Kolar HVDC link is a crucial transmission corridor that facilitates efficient power transfer between the eastern and southern regions of India. The investment is expected to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the grid, ensuring stable electricity supply across regions.
With this latest approval, Power Grid continues its commitment to strengthening India’s power transmission infrastructure through strategic investments and technological upgrades.
