Lucknow: The National Interventional Council 2026 was inaugurated in Lucknow at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, bringing together leading cardiology experts from India and several countries. The event was organized by the Cardiology Society of India and inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The conference focused on advancements in interventional cardiology and the growing challenge of lifestyle-related diseases.

Lifestyle Changes Key to Better Health: CM Yogi

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi Adityanath said that changing lifestyles have led to new health challenges and rising disease burden in society.

He emphasized that in traditional Indian life, discipline such as:

  • Early sleeping and waking
  • Balanced and nutritious diet
  • Structured daily routine

was an integral part of healthy living. However, modern lifestyle changes have significantly impacted public health.

Prevention More Important Than Treatment, Says CM

The Chief Minister stressed that while treatment is important, prevention is far more critical.

He urged doctors and medical professionals to focus on:

  • Promoting healthy lifestyle habits
  • Preventive healthcare strategies

He said that large-scale awareness can help reduce the growing burden of chronic and lifestyle diseases.

Health Infrastructure Strengthened in Uttar Pradesh

Highlighting progress in the health sector, CM Yogi said that Uttar Pradesh has made major improvements since 2017.

Key developments include:

  • Operation of 81 medical colleges
  • Establishment of two AIIMS institutions
  • Expansion of free healthcare under national and state schemes
  • Coverage extended to multiple worker groups including ASHA workers, cooks, education assistants, and others

He said millions of people are now benefiting from free or affordable healthcare services.

Government Push for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare

The Chief Minister also highlighted steps taken to make healthcare more affordable:

  • Promotion of pharma parks
  • Efforts to reduce cost of medical equipment
  • Expansion of healthcare infrastructure

These measures aim to ensure easier access to quality treatment for all sections of society.

Rising Lifestyle Diseases and Changing Habits

CM Yogi expressed concern over increasing lifestyle-related health issues, linking them to:

  • Irregular daily routines
  • Poor eating habits
  • Excessive smartphone usage

He noted that people now spend several hours daily on mobile devices, contributing to health problems.

Food Safety and Adulteration Concerns Raised

The Chief Minister also raised serious concerns over food adulteration, stating that:

  • Cases of food adulteration, especially in dairy products, are increasing
  • Enforcement actions have uncovered large-scale irregularities

He urged citizens to remain cautious about food quality and hygiene.

Yoga and Preventive Health Highlighted

Referring to India’s traditional wellness practices, CM Yogi praised the promotion of yoga under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

He said yoga has gained global acceptance and plays an important role in preventive healthcare and healthy living.

Doctors Urged to Lead Awareness Efforts

The Chief Minister urged medical professionals to take a leading role in society by:

  • Educating people about lifestyle changes
  • Promoting preventive care over treatment dependence
  • Strengthening public awareness about health risks

He said doctors are trusted voices and can significantly influence public behaviour.

Call for a Healthier and Stronger Nation

Concluding his address, CM Yogi said that a nation cannot become strong, prosperous, or self-reliant if it remains burdened by disease.

He emphasized that:

  • Healthy society leads to a strong nation
  • Prevention and awareness are essential for public health
  • Lifestyle change is necessary for long-term well-being
