New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), the nation’s largest power transmission utility and a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise, has been declared the successful bidder for a vital inter-state transmission project under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. The project, titled “Inter-Regional Strengthening between SR Grid and WR Grid,” was awarded to Power Grid with a Letter of Intent (LoI) issued on September 29, 2025.
Strategic Project to Enhance Power Transfer Capacity
Under the terms of this Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) project, Power Grid will develop 765 kV double circuit transmission lines passing through Karnataka and Maharashtra. The project also includes the construction of line bays at both ends of the transmission lines. This infrastructure development is poised to significantly boost the power transfer capability between the Southern Regional Grid (SR Grid) and the Western Regional Grid (WR Grid).
By enhancing inter-regional connectivity, the project will improve the overall stability, reliability, and resilience of India’s national power transmission network. This will not only address regional demand-supply imbalances but also support the integration of renewable energy sources across regions.
