Oil India and GAIL Sign MoU to Strengthen Natural Gas Collaboration and Promote Cleaner Energy in India

Partnership aims to enhance domestic gas availability, improve access to cleaner fuels, and support India’s transition to a gas-based economy

New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL) and GAIL (India) Limited have joined forces by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation across the natural gas value chain. The agreement seeks to unlock synergies to expand access to cleaner and sustainable energy throughout India.

The MoU was signed by Sanjay Kumar, Director (Marketing) of GAIL, and Trailukya Borgohain, Director (Operations) of OIL, in the presence of key officials including Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), Additional Secretary Praveen M Khanooja, Joint Secretary (General Petroleum) Asheesh Joshi, GAIL’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Sandeep Kumar Gupta, and OIL’s CMD Dr. Ranjit Rath.

Collaboration to Enhance Domestic Gas Availability and Access

Addressing the occasion, Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain described the MoU as a timely and strategic move to boost domestic gas availability and ensure seamless access to demand centers across the country. He highlighted the importance of such collaborations in advancing the government’s vision of a gas-based economy and accelerating India’s energy transition towards cleaner fuel sources.

Strengthening National Energy Security and Sustainability

GAIL CMD Sandeep Kumar Gupta emphasized that this partnership will play a vital role in enhancing national energy security and expanding natural gas accessibility. He reiterated GAIL’s commitment to supporting the government’s goal of providing cleaner and sustainable energy for all citizens.

Leveraging Strengths for a Gas-Based Economy

Dr. Ranjit Rath, CMD of OIL, called the MoU a significant milestone in combining OIL’s upstream production capabilities with GAIL’s expertise in gas marketing and distribution infrastructure. He expressed confidence that the collaboration would accelerate India’s transition towards a gas-based economy while creating substantial value for all stakeholders involved.
