New Delhi: POWERGRID Khavda II-C Transmission Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), has successfully commissioned its Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project for evacuating renewable energy from Khavda, Gujarat. The project, titled “Transmission scheme for evacuation of 4.5 GW RE injection at Khavda PS under Phase-II, Part C,” has been fully commissioned with effect from January 31, 2026, and the Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) was received on February 2, 2026.
Strategic Significance of the Project
The Khavda II-C transmission scheme was secured by POWERGRID Khavda II-C Transmission Limited through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB). The project plays a crucial role in:
- Evacuating 4.5 GW of renewable energy from the Khavda hub to the national grid
- Strengthening inter-state power transmission capacity
- Supporting India’s clean energy transition by enabling large-scale integration of renewable power
Contribution to India’s Renewable Energy Goals
With the commencement of commercial operations, the project ensures reliable and efficient evacuation of renewable energy, enhancing grid stability and supporting India’s ambitious renewable energy targets. It also reinforces the national grid infrastructure to handle growing renewable energy demand from Gujarat and other states.
