New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has taken another significant step in its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive healthcare access.
Under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, POWERGRID has donated three state-of-the-art electric buses to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Flag-off Ceremony Marks New Era in Patient Transport
The electric buses were ceremonially flagged off at AIIMS by Shri R. K. Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director, POWERGRID, and Dr. M. Srinivas, Director, AIIMS. Senior officials from both POWERGRID and AIIMS, including Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi (Director, Personnel), Sh. Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra (Director, Projects), and Sh. Jasbir Singh (Executive Director, CSR), were present on the occasion.
Eco-Friendly Buses to Improve Accessibility at AIIMS
These air-conditioned electric buses are equipped with advanced features such as–
- Pushback seats for enhanced comfort
- Wheelchair accessibility
- Hydraulic lifts for the differently-abled
This initiative aims to ease internal traffic congestion, enhance mobility for patients and visitors, and reduce carbon emissions, thus aligning with India’s goals for a greener and more inclusive healthcare system.
POWERGRID’s Broad CSR Footprint in Healthcare
POWERGRID’s contribution to healthcare doesn’t stop here. The company has also undertaken the construction of Vishram Sadans (rest houses) in major hospitals across the country to assist patients and their families during long treatment periods. So far, eight Vishram Sadans are fully functional at:
- AIIMS, New Delhi
- KGMU, Lucknow
- IGIMS, Patna
- DMCH, Darbhanga
- Guwahati Medical College & Hospital
- SSG Hospital, Vadodara
- NIMHANS, Bengaluru
- RIMS, Ranchi
Six more are currently under construction in Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh.

In addition to healthcare, POWERGRID has made significant strides in rural development, education, skill development, environmental sustainability, water conservation, and sanitation. These efforts underline the company’s vision of contributing meaningfully to India’s socio-economic development.

As of August 31, 2025, POWERGRID–
- Operates 286 Sub-stations
- Manages 1,80,864 ckm of transmission lines
- Handles 5,77,331 MVA of transformation capacity
Through advanced technologies, automation, and digital integration, the company has maintained an average transmission system availability of 99.84%, marking it as a global benchmark in grid reliability and efficiency.
