New Delhi: Lieutenant Colonel Pradeep Shoury Arya, an officer of the Indian Revenue Service (2004 batch) and a Territorial Army officer, has been conferred with the Sena Medal (Gallantry) on the eve of the 77th Republic Day, 2026. The award, approved by President Droupadi Murmu, recognises Lt Col Arya’s exceptional role in counter-narco-terror operations.
This honour marks a historic first: Lt Col Arya becomes the first civil servant and IRS officer to receive the Sena Medal (Gallantry), highlighting a rare instance where bravery in uniform and dedication in civil administration converge.
Operational Excellence in Narco-Terror Missions
While specific operational details remain classified for security reasons, reports from the IRS Association confirm that the award recognises Lt Col Arya’s individual courage and devotion to duty during anti-narco-terror operations. His role involved operational leadership that contributed significantly to national security efforts.
Lt Col Arya is part of the 44 personnel who received the Sena Medal (Gallantry) this year, among 70 gallantry awards announced on the eve of Republic Day, including:

- 1 Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry)
- 44 Sena Medals (Gallantry)

Lt Col Arya has a distinguished record of gallantry and service awards. He has previously been awarded the Shaurya Chakra and the Vishisht Seva Medal, reflecting sustained operational and service contributions over the years.
Serving with the Territorial Army’s Parachute Regiment, he has seamlessly balanced his responsibilities as Commissioner of Income-Tax with active military service. This dual commitment has drawn admiration within civil and military circles alike.
