New Delhi: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the opening plenary of the Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly in New Delhi today. Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted the transformative potential of solar energy, emphasizing its role not only in power generation but also in promoting empowerment and inclusive development.
Solar Energy as a Tool for Inclusion and Prosperity
President Murmu described ISA as a symbol of humanity’s shared aspiration to harness solar energy for dignity, inclusion, and collective prosperity. She stressed that climate change is a pressing global challenge, requiring urgent and concrete action. India remains committed to combating climate change and is actively taking steps to promote clean energy adoption.
The President highlighted that energy equity is the foundation of social equity. Sharing India’s experience in providing electricity to homes in remote areas, she underscored that access to affordable and clean energy empowers communities, drives local economies, and opens up opportunities beyond mere electricity supply. “Solar energy is not merely about power generation but also about empowerment and inclusive development,” she said.

Linking Solar Energy with Socio-Economic Development
President Murmu urged ISA Member Countries to focus on the broader impacts of solar energy, beyond infrastructure. She called for a collective action plan linking solar initiatives with job creation, women’s leadership, rural livelihoods, and digital inclusion. Progress, she noted, should be measured not only in megawatts but also by the number of lives improved, families strengthened, and communities transformed.
The President also stressed the importance of technology development and sharing advanced solar technologies across member nations for maximum benefit. She highlighted that while expanding large-scale solar installations, it is crucial to preserve the ecological balance of regions, reinforcing that environmental conservation is the very reason for adopting green energy.
A Call for Global Commitment
President Murmu urged nations to work with dedication not only for their own citizens but for the welfare of the entire world and future generations. She expressed confidence that the discussions and resolutions of this Assembly will mark a milestone in solar energy production, contributing to the building of an inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world.
