New Delhi: In a significant leadership development in India’s coal and mining sector, Chaudhari Shivraj Singh has been selected as the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI Ltd).
The recommendation was made by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) after a detailed interview and evaluation process.
Mr Singh is currently serving as General Manager (Mining) at Coal India Limited, the parent company of CMPDI.

Selection Process and Background
The PESB had advertised the vacancy for CMD, CMPDI in March 2025, as the current CMD Manoj Kumar is set to vacate the position on November 1, 2025.
Manoj Kumar has been holding the post since May 1, 2021, initially with additional charge before being formally appointed.
The selection process saw a total of 11 candidates shortlisted for the final interview round, drawn from prestigious public sector organizations such as –
- Coal India Ltd (CIL)
- Mineral Exploration Corporation Ltd (MECL)
- South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL)
- NLC India Ltd
- Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL)
- Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL)
- Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL)
- NTPC Ltd
Chaudhari Shivraj Singh emerged as the top contender, impressing the board with his qualifications, leadership experience, and industry insight.
