New Delhi: Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has appointed Rajeev Kumar as a Non-Executive, Additional Director on its Board, with effect from 1st July 2025. He will serve in the capacity of Government Nominee Director, a role designated by the Administrative Ministry.
Appointment Details
Mr Kumar’s appointment is co-terminus with his tenure at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, extending up to June 18, 2028, or until further orders—whichever is earlier. His nomination was made official through a letter dated 19th June 2025 from the Administrative Ministry. He will hold office as Additional Director until the next General Meeting of the company, where shareholder approval will be sought.

Vast Government Experience
A seasoned government official, Mr Kumar brings over 31 years of experience across various ministries and departments within the Government of India.
He began his career in the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, where he contributed significantly to major policy transitions, including the introduction of VAT, compensation frameworks to states, the gradual reduction of CST, and the launch of GST. His work supported crucial fiscal reforms at the national level.
Following his tenure in the Finance Ministry, Mr Kumar served in the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education). He managed administrative and financial operations for the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in 11 states, ensuring efficient implementation of the government’s flagship school nutrition programme.
He later worked with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, handling establishment and administrative matters, before moving to his current role in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, where he serves as Deputy Secretary (Flagship Programme).
A Strategic Addition to Balmer Lawrie’s Board
Balmer Lawrie, a diversified PSU engaged in industrial packaging, logistics, chemicals, and travel services, is expected to benefit from Kumar’s deep understanding of public policy, finance, and administrative affairs.
His appointment is seen as a move to further strengthen the company’s alignment with government priorities, especially in the energy and logistics sectors.
